Cortechs is a studio for strategy, design, software and research
One lens misses most of the problem.
Most projects go wrong because someone saw the problem from only one side. We look at yours from five, then help you decide what to do and build it.
Every problem arrives tangled. Pull the threads together and it takes a shape. But see it from a single lens, and all you see is one face of it. The rest stays in the dark.
One team, from the first question to the last release.
Most companies hire a strategist, then a designer, then developers, and lose part of the plot at every handover. We keep the thinking and the building in the same room, so the reasons behind each decision make it into the product.
Strategy
Product strategy, market entry, pricing and fundraising support.
Design
Brand, interfaces and product design, drawn to be built.
Engineering
Websites, internal systems and full products, custom coded and handed over.
Research
Field studies, data analysis and published papers.
Five lenses, all with their unique views
- Lens 1
Researcher
What is really going on?
Before anyone draws a screen, we find out how the problem works today. We talk to the people living with it, read the numbers you already have, and list what everyone assumes but nobody has checked.
What you get: interviews and field notes, a one-page problem statement, and the assumptions worth testing first. - Lens 2
Marketer
Who will choose this, and why?
People have to pick a product before they can use it. We work out who it is for, what they use today and what would make them switch, so the product has a position before it has a name.
What you get: customer profiles, positioning and message, and a plan for reaching the first users. - Lens 3
Investor
Is it worth building?
We follow the money: what it costs to build and run, what it earns or saves, and what has to be true for the numbers to work. Often the best answer is a smaller first version.
What you get: a cost and revenue model, a scoped first release, and material for funding conversations. - Lens 4
Engineer
Will it hold up?
We design around the data and the load the system will really carry, choose tools you can hire for, and find what breaks first while it is still cheap to change.
What you get: the architecture and data model, a working build, and tests and documents you can own. - Lens 5
Operator
Who runs it on Monday?
Software succeeds or fails in daily use. We design for the people who open it every morning: their roles, their training, their reports, and the edge cases nobody put in the brief.
What you get: workflows and permissions, a rollout and training plan, and the reports people check every week.
A genie will build your company one thing. Just one. What do you wish for?
- ResearcherHang on. Has anyone asked the customers?
- MarketerThey’ll wish for cheaper. Wish for something they’d brag about.
- InvestorBragging doesn’t pay salaries. Wish for what pays for the next wish.
- EngineerThere’s no next wish if it falls over in month three.
- OperatorAnd someone runs it at 9am on Monday. Nobody wishes for them.
Five answers. All of them right.
So how do you know what to build, or where to start?
How an engagement runs
-
Understanding
We get to know the vision, the goals and how things work today, then dig into the limits, the risks and the questions nobody has answered yet.
-
Diagnosis
We look through all five lenses and come back with a written view: what to do, in what order, and what not to build.
-
Design and build
We work in short cycles, so you can use real pieces early and change course while it is still cheap.
-
Rollout
People move over in stages, with training, so the business keeps running while the system changes underneath it.
-
Stay on
We stay to measure and improve, or hand over the code, the documents and the accounts if you would rather run it yourself.
Tell us the problem.
Six short questions in plain words. You do not need a spec, a deck or a budget sign-off, and nothing here commits you to anything.
What happens next
- We read it. You hear back within two working days, with questions or a time to talk.
- We talk for 30 minutes. We fill the gaps together. No pitch needed.
- You get a written view. What we would do, in what order, and roughly what it would cost. It is yours to keep, whether or not we work together.
